Can you describe how you arrived at the realization that the human-animal relationship was bidirectional in this way? Indeed, by teaching Environmental Psychology at Georgia Tech, and from the work of my mentor, Robert SommerI learned early in my career that there was a lot more information about how the built environment altered human behavior. In spite of this fact, the earliest intellectual contributions to the EP literature came from biologists and anthropologists such as Calhoun and Hall, students of territoriality and personal space.

Sommer's two books, Personal Spaceand Tight Spaceswere especially influential. He was Harlow 's first graduate student at Wisconsin and I found information in his book on humanistic psychology that was directly applicable to zoo habitats, standards, and practices. Founder of the "Human Potential" movement, I found his ideas useful in developing a kind of "Primate Potential.

How unique is your approach in the field of zoo management? Has the zoo management field been receptive to your ideas? My ideas have been accepted quite well among keepers, curators, and other scientists. We are seeing many of my ideas in the work of zoo architects and this design approach has been collaborative among many of my close colleagues such as Gary Lee of CLR JGG: a Philadelphia-based design firm.

I do think this will change however and some zoos e. I've had no trouble publishing my work in major journals such as Environment and Behavior and the Journal of Comparative Psychology. Our book Ethics on the Ark was one of the most successful Smithsonian books and it has been widely influential in the zoo profession. My recent talk Building Ethical Arks at the University of California at Davis brought a large crowd of interested students and young faculty, so I think there is a bit of a movement building.

I wrote an important book chapter about elephant welfare in a Tufts publication An Elephant in the Room that caused a bit of a stir among zoo folks. What kinds of jobs exist for those kinds of people?

I used to recommend they study with me at Georgia Tech. You have to find a mentor who is doing this kind of work and then make contributions that get you noticed. You have to publish regularly in good journals and then find the right job. Many of my students found zoos that wanted Ph. The one idea that I am pursuing with other zoos that is fairly new is the concept of "wellness.

Wellness is a blend of biology and psychology and it also provides visitors with an example of how wellness in zoo animals can contribute to our understanding of wellness in our families and our communities. I think the wellness concept will be prove to be a very useful concept as we strive for optimal environments, standards, and practices for each and every unique species in the zoo. If so, how? Do you find these tools to be useful for outreach?

My daughter Molly is an expert in social media and she has taught me that it is an important means of communicating the power of our ideas. I'm working on a weblog in my current consulting work so I hope to export ideas and commentary in the coming months. Right now I'm helping non-profit leaders and scholars in Georgia, Florida, and California so I am Mademoiselle Terry Au Zoo part 1 - Kassap* • Corneloup* - Pointe Noire (CD a good response from professionals who need help.

It was with the wait as my two granddaughters love their authentic music makers.

This toy is going to be a stocking stuffer for my son at Christmas. However, my nephew, 3, has one, and they him and my Mademoiselle Terry Au Zoo part 1 - Kassap* • Corneloup* - Pointe Noire (CD, 4, both love it! It take a minute for them to figure out because they want to blow in to it, but wants they figure out all they have to do is hum, it is actually easier for them!

Cute toy, cheap in price, keeps them busy for about 10 minutes at a time. The edges are a little rough, and the kids struggle with making a sound out of it. Nicer than plastic ones, but I think that it could be a little nicer. He's still a little young to play this himself, but he loves it when we hum into it for him. We have a children's book with a kazoo, so I am happy to show him what one really is, and this nice wooden one should hold up until he's able to make noise with it himself.

Easy to use, nice sound, but it's hard to use the holes to create clearly different notes. Kazoo use can be tricky at first. Creating different pitches comes from changes in the pitch of your hum, not the holes in the Kazoo.

So, hum away Just hum! I purchased two kazoos for my granddaughters, ages 3 and 18mo. The younger one hasn't been very interested, but she is a little young for it. The older one loves it even though she's not very good at it. Her voice is a little high pitched, and the kazoo works more effectively with lower tones.

I've played it myself and found it to be as good as any metal or plastic kazoo I've ever had. Typically, it takes a little time for children to master the art of humming into a kazoo to make real sounds. If you believe your Kazoo is defective, please contact us! A replacement will soon be creating merry melodies! We have an instrument box and this is one of my daughter's favorite. It took her a while to get the hang of it but by 15 months old she was able to make sounds with it.

The design is very simple, but it is colorful. Other than the noise level of 3 kazoos they are a hit. Each one of them is able to make "music" with the kazoo and all of them love to make music! We purchased 2 of these, one for each grandchild. One of these was rather rough and not too smooth.

The older grandchild did enjoy making little tunes on his kazoo. Perhaps the younger grandchild was simply too young, but didn't spend much time with it at all. Their mother, however, got caught a kick out of picking out tunes! The kazoos are well-made - far better than the breakable plastic ones I've seen before. Once I showed them how to use the kazoos, my grandchildren ages 3 and 5 enjoyed playing with them. I did not give this item the highest rating, because it took a few practice sessions especially for the 3 year-old to get used to using their own voices loudly before they got the hang of it.

My kids love these - I had kazoos in my christmas stockings when I was a kid and couldn't pass them up when I found them on your site!

I bought 2 Kazoo's for my grandchildren they seem to be well made and I am sure they will love them. My sons 3 and 5 love Mademoiselle Terry Au Zoo part 1 - Kassap* • Corneloup* - Pointe Noire (CD It is a lot of fun when they can "play" a song themselves. This is a nice quality wooden kazoo.

My 2 year old loves playing with it! This was bought as a little extra present for my 3 year old son's birthday. He has been playing all the time, and so has his 18 month old sister. It was definitely worth the money! By clicking 'Post Review,' you agree to the Terms of Use. You may receive an email asking you to confirm your review.
