What are your opinions on this? Location: Germany. Nothing Like The Sun was the best Sting release But Sacred Love is a disaster in my opinion ClausOct 1, Remember when Brand New Day was doing so-so and the Desert Rose eventually exploded and made the album successful? This isn't going to happen with this album. Send Your Love sucks and there isn't another single they can pull from this that will help sales. This album may tank. Location: USA. Two words for ya: Mercury Falling World of GenesisOct 1, I was hoping it could be a succesful album.
So sad the rest of the album seems to be more of the same. It seems Sting is going a different direction with each new album he makes. Mercury Falling was his last decent album. Aw, well. Location: Ohio. Chris COct 1, Location: San Jose, CA. MetrallaOct 2, Location: new york. Gordons first bad album. I sold mine already. Friend of Brian WOct 2, Chris COct 2, Soul Cages is an amazing album. Pepper likes this. I only listened to the new Sting album once and I didn't think it was as bad as everyone else does.
I wouldn't say it is the kind of album that will have me coming back day after day to listen to, but it isn't so bad I feel the need to sell my copy right away. MikeTOct 2, Location: Moscow, Russia.
Sanfi4uOct 2, Location: US. He hasn't done anything half-way decent since Ten summoners Tales. The sad part is, he thinks he's a genius, when really he just sucks. He fell off a long, long time ago. It's sad, really, to watch it all happening.
What he needs to do, if he's even capable, is to forget about trying for the Top 40 and to search deep down in his soul for something real and then maybe he'll put out a quality album. Right now, he is just over-produced, over-processed, uninspired rubbish. Any questions? GoldenBoyOct 2, Location: Michigan, USA.
As for the digipak issue, The Soul Cages was eventually issued in a jewel case, both domestically and for the import-only remaster.
IMO Sting has never made a great album. Even his best solo effort, whatever that is to you, has a couple of duds. That being said, every album has had a few great cuts.
Each new release attempted to take Stings sound in a new direction, and I always liked where he was going. It appears Sting has been listening to less jazz and more John Mayer Maybe that dreadful performance with the Backstreet boys at the Men Strike Back concert is to blame? Its been interesting watching Sting evolve over the years, both musically and personally.
By the Album) 90's he Forget About The Future - Sting - Sacred Love (SACD the pop guy people could respect, for his hits, and his lifestyle.
Dominic Miller explains that the point of the rehearsals is to reach the lowest common denominator as far as the songs arrangements are confirmed - once they have this together, they can build the songs back up again.
One of the interesting features of the DVD is that no drummer was used and Sting explains that this should not be seen as a slight against the profession, but that omitting drums at this early stage of the song's live development allows the "colours to emerge" in the arrangements.
Including the drums at this stage, Sting explains, can sometimes prevent this development as he finds the drums are often all you can hear. The track Inside features a mixture of footage from both the Mayan and Malibu and Sting describes how backing singer Joy Rose a star in the making for sure has grown into the group's role and is now much more than a backing singer and is now trading lines with Sting during the song and how he found that this was subsequently shifting the song's meaning.
The footage of 'Dead Man's Rope' again shifts seamlessly between Malibu and the Mayan, but the Malibu footage was filmed the night after Kim Turner's passing, and Sting's moving words about Kim to the rest of the band Forget About The Future - Sting - Sacred Love (SACD very touching.
The commentary reveals that the song is about a man trapped inside a 'well of memory' - as Sting found himself to be during the writing of his biography - and that the song deals with the place where you need to deal with reality and once you accept this then comfort arrives. Sting and Dominic feature in a short and amusing segment about 'Shape Of My Heart', where Sting explains how they co-wrote the song and how Dominic is convinced that Sting found the lyrics in the garden under a stone.
Dominic counters that he never listens to the lyrics anyway Sting: "He's a guitarist, lyrics get in the way of his riffs" and the action cuts to Dominic in rehearsals asking for the words to 'Stolen Car', "But not all of them! He wryly observes that "People will get their money's worth with the lyrics on this album", much to the amusement of Kipper who can be heard off screen, laughing heartily. He opened it at random to the page containing Sonnet 18, started to sing the words to the melody and found that despite the odd time meter, the bard's words scanned so he simply placed his chorus in the middle!
Watching the footage, it seems apparent that Sting must have had two sets of lyrics for this tune rather like 'January Stars' and 'Everybody Laughed But You'. The lyrics of 'That Sinking Feeling' unsurprisingly all have a nautical theme - dealing with Ulysses returning home to his wife and child and encountering the sirens, analogies with ocean liners, the Spanish main, galleons, Forget About The Future - Sting - Sacred Love (SACD, Jonah etc As we said, all very intriguing.
Let's hope we find out more about how this song developed in the way it did Then Forget About The Future - Sting - Sacred Love (SACD come to one of the highlights of the DVD - the pairing of two magnificent songs, 'Stolen Car' and 'All Would Envy' - both of which feature some sublime trumpet playing by Chris Botti.
Chris Botti's yearning, soulful playing heightens the sadness of the song. The smile on Sting's face at the final notes says it all.
How can he resist playing this song live If we are fortunate to hear this pairing on the new tour, it will be worth the cost of admission alone. The commentary here is particularly insightful, with Sting talking about the experience and memories triggered through writing his biography. He explains how he did not want to write about his days of fame, but instead wanted to focus on the 'normal person' he was growing up into young adulthood, and to whom success was about to happen.
In the book he writes about his parents who Forget About The Future - Sting - Sacred Love (SACD very young when he was born explaining that the book offered him the opportunity to understand his parents better because he found himself as a fifty year old man writing about his parents at a time when they were little older than children.
