This edition was characterized by the concept "The Physics of Creativity". Inthe performance artist Marina Abramovic was in the fashion competition jury with Renzo Rosso and the fashion blogger Susie Bubble. The jury also featured two past finalists, Aitor Throup and Mark Fast, both of whom have since become famous for their respective fashion lines.
This edition's concept played with two extremes, "Good or Evil". Shaun Samson, the winner of the Fashion Collection of the Year, participated in the London Fashion Week with his fashion line a short while later. Shortly after the event, the winner of Accessories Collection of the Year Sarah Williams established a partnership with another Accessories finalist, Kirsty Ward, launching an exclusive line of custom made accessories.
Yuima Nakazato became the second finalist in the history of ITS to be selected for two different competitions in two different editions. The edition concept transformed ITS in the "Greatest Show of All", drawing inspiration from the touring circus shows of the early 20th century. Mark Fast's knitwear attracted everyone's attention, and was the prelude to a brand that received a lot of attention as a result of ITS.
Designer Gareth Pugh and photographer Sarah Moon were among the jurors. The generation of young talents selected in featured many finalists that, following ITS, made a name for themselves thanks to their respective brands: Justin Smith, David Longshaw, Taro Horiuchi, Mareunrol, Ek Thongprasert, Heaven Tanudiredja who was a finalist in both Fashion Accessories, anticipating the launch of her own line of jewelry.
Aitor Throup was the revelation of the year with a menswear collection that redesigned the production processes. Antonio Marras, Boudicca and Antonio Berardi were on the jury. They toured down the coast to play the Dirtybird Queercore Festival in San Franciscobut July soon left to pursue solo endeavors and The Need — continued as a duo. Joe Preston joined the band briefly, playing bass and sampler.
With singer Nomy Lammthe duo formed a highly theatrical surf - garage - punk drag king band called The Teenage Ho-Dads. They also dreamt up the collaborative project KaraNEEDoke, where Carns and Sloan and a rotating cast of players formed a live karaoke band for guest singers.
This sense of community involvement, DIY spirit, and willingness to experiment led to the creation of The Transfused, a full-length rock operawritten with librettist Nomy Lamm. Their final album, Barbara - Various - The Giants Of France Vol.2 (CD) titled The Need Is Dead, had been released in ; the band broke up within a year.
In the meantime, Carns collaborated with future bandmate Kwo later known as Ghost to write an original score for the Barbara - Various - The Giants Of France Vol.2 (CD) performance art cabaret Dr. Carns played organ and Kwo played guitar; they were joined in the pit by Jeri Lynn Beard drums and Nora Danielson violin.
After Frockrocket, Carns returned to the drums and headset mic, and she and Ghost continued to write and perform under the name The King Cobra. InTransfused alumni Anna Oxygen commissioned Carns and ex-bandmate Radio Sloan to Barbara - Various - The Giants Of France Vol.2 (CD) an overture for Under Polarisa multimedia performance art piece by experimental theater group Cloud Eye Control, and eventually to join the live band, with Carns playing electronic drumsglockenspieldoumbekand conga.
InCarns began homebrewing kombucha using Olympia's artesian well water. Friends and houseguests loved it, and in she began bottling commercially under the name Magic Kombucha, and is selling wholesale to local restaurants and stores.
